The Department of Public Health was created by The Institute of Public Health's Board of Control in 1911. The Department of Public Health allowed for the staff of the Institute to instruct both medical and arts students in science. Dr. H. W. Hill took a special interest in this Department and he formed the Faculty of Public Health in 1917 when nursing education became a focus of the Institute.
The Faculty of Public Health eventually offered the following certifications: Diploma of Public Health (D.H.P.); Certificate of Public Health Nursing (C.P.H.N.); Doctor of Public Health (D.P.H. ); Bachelor of Science in Nursing (B.Sc.N.); Certificate of Instructor of Nursing (C.I.N. ); and, Certificate in Hospital Administration (C.H.A.).
