The Department of Public Health was created by The Institute of Public Health's Board of Control in 1911. The Department of Public Health allowed for the staff of the Institute to instruct both medical and arts students in science. Dr. H. W. Hill took a special interest in this Department and he formed the Faculty of Public Health in 1917 when nursing education became a focus of the Institute.
