Fines for Regular Loans $0.50 per day per item

Recalled Loans:

Any item on regular or extended loan may be recalled. The original borrower is assured of at least seven days use of the requested item before it must be returned. Recalled material must be returned by the date specified on the recall notice.

Fines for Recalled Loans $2.00 per day per item

Renewal of Loans:

Regular or extended loan items may be renewed up to three times* by the due date unless they have been recalled or reserved for another patron, or the user requesting the renewals has been suspended because of overdue items or fines.

*Guest Borrowers & Direct Borrowers are eligible for 1 renewal only.

Shortened Loan Periods:

Material in high demand may be placed on short loan status.

Fines for Shortened Loans $2.00 per day per item
Fines for Hourly Loans $2.00 per hour per item

Avoid fines by returning items on time or by renewing them by the due date.

  • Return of materials cancels replacement costs leaving the daily overdue fine charges to be paid.
  • Suspension of Library Borrowing Privileges occurs when ANY loaned item becomes overdue.

USERS
Western Libraries is open to the general public and everyone may use most of the materials housed in those Libraries or consult library staff for assistance in accessing the collections or services.

A valid University identification card is required to borrow materials.

REGULAR LOANS
The regular loan period for most circulation material is defined at the top of this page. All materials on regular loan are subject to recall.

SHORT LOANS
The loan periods for these materials range from one hour to seven days depending upon demand.

EXTENDED LOANS
In certain cases, users with full borrowing privileges may be granted selected materials for an extended period. All materials on extended loan are subject to recall.

RECALLED LOANS
Any item on regular or extended loan may be recalled. Borrowers with full borrowing privileges may recall such items. The original borrower is assured of at least seven days use of the requested item before it must be returned. Recalls are placed by clicking on the Request Item button in the Library Catalogue, or in person at any Western Libraries Service Desk.

RENEWAL OF LOANS
Regular or extended loan items may be renewed up to THREE times* by the due date unless they have been recalled or reserved for another patron, or the user requesting the renewals is suspended. Items that have been assigned a short loan status are not renewable. For SELF RENEWAL see "My Library Account" on the Western Libraries web site. Material can also be renewed when it is brought to any library in Western Libraries.

RETURN PROCEDURES
Regular loan and Recalled material may be returned to any of the Western Libraries or affiliated University College Libraries (Brescia, Huron, King’s) & St. Peter’s Seminary.

NOTE: Short loan material must be returned to its home library (e.g. an EDU 3-day book must be returned to the Education Library) by the date specified.

NON-CIRCULATING MATERIAL
There are materials in each library that do not circulate. Some non-circulating materials may be circulated for a limited period at the discretion of the unit holding the materials. These materials will be subject to overdue fines as noted elsewhere.
