The Blue Book of Canadian Business Canadian Business Resource

The Blue Book of Canadian Business (or the Canadian Business Resource) is a resource one can use to find brief biographical sketches of some executives and some short company profiles. The Blue Book of Canadian Business is available in hardcopy and online through Western Libraries. Below are instructions on how to use the Canadian Business Resource online.

How to search CBR Online

After performing a search, the option to include all officers, download or refine data is available in the left hand toolbar. In the search form, if you choose from the alphabetical listing and then download data, you can export a .tsv (excel) file of all the companies under that letter. The information provided includes: company name, contact information, CEO Title, Web site, Number of Employees and Revenue.

Example:

A search for City: London and Province, State, Country: ON results in a list of 30 companies in London, Ontario.

By choosing the FP500 List button, you will be directed to a full list of all 500 companies compiled by National Post Business.

Company Listing

When completing a search for a company, you will find a company listings display. The information provided includes: NAICS codes, contact info, market info, employee listing, other links, and similar companies. Within the market information, you can select a stock code, which will take you to the TSX (see example below). This will give you a market breakdown (stock prices, bonds, etc) of the company.

Example: The Bank of Nova Scotia

Corporate Profile

"Each profile explains in detail who the company is, what it does, how it grew and developed into a successful corporation, and its current role in the Canadian economy. It also highlights top executives and board members and profiles one or more company leaders." Corporate Profiles can be searched by company name, executive or board member name, description of business or location. To select all profiled companies, leave the keyword box blank.
