What is the Reserve Collection?

The reserve collection consists of photocopied articles and books that are required for law courses. Textbooks that are not required by a faculty member but are still heavily used by students are also located in this collection. The library catalogue provides a listing for reserve materials. To find your course listing, go to the Western Libraries web site, http://www.lib.uwo.ca. Under 'Library Catalogue' select Course Readings on Reserve. Enter by course name or by instructor. Top

Where is the Reserve Collection located?

The Law library reserve collection is located behind the service desk in the John & Dotsa Bitove Family Law Library. Top

What is the Loan Period?

The loan period for all Law library reserve material is two hours. Items on reserve are subject to fines if overdue. Top

When should I have my class materials ready for Reserve?

Before the start of each semester the Law Library will notify all faculty members of the upcoming dates for submitting their material for reserve. We will contact you by email, providing a link to the Law Reserve home page for the Law library. The earlier the request is sent to us the sooner the Law Library will process your material. Top

When is the best time to bring in this material?

To be assured that your material is on reserve and ready for the beginning of the semester, please submit your material on the date specified under Law Faculty Submission Dates for Reserve Requests. Material can also be submitted throughout the semester, however, it is recommended that your requests be sent prior to the start of term. Top

How do I put Books on Reserve for my course?

You can send a list of preferred books for your course to the Law Library directly or by fax (519-661-2012). There is also a web form entitled Reserve Request Form located on the Western Libraries web site. Select the Law Library as the location to place the materials on reserve. Once you fill out the form and submit the request, it will be sent to the Law Library for processing. Top

How do I order new books that the library does not have?

You can request to order new books directly through the Law Library. The number of copies ordered will depend on library holdings and any budget considerations. Top

How do I put Photocopied materials on Reserve for my course?

Faculty / Instructors are responsible for having all articles required for their course(s) photocopied and submitted to the Law Library. The Library is responsible only for placing the articles on reserve. The procedure for getting material photocopied should be discussed with the administrative assistant assigned to your area. Top

How long will it take to process my requests and place the material on Reserve?

Once we receive the material it will be put on reserve within two business days. Top

How do I obtain a book from another Library on campus if it is needed for my course?

Please speak directly to Law Library staff and we will make the necessary arrangements for you. Top

Can I place my own material on reserve?

Yes you can. The Law Library will keep records of your property and return it on the date that you request. Top

Should I give the library a copy of my course syllabus?

Yes, this will benefit your class and will aid in the organization of materials being placed on reserve. Students will regularly come to the library to see if a syllabus for the class is on reserve. Top

What email address should I direct my requests to?

Please direct your requests to the Law Library Reserve Unit. Staff check e-mail daily for new requests. Top
