The National Topographic Data Base (NTDB) is a vector GIS database that covers the entire landmass of Canada and contains all features normally found on 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 scale National Topographic Series (NTS) maps. The NTDB has been developed by Geomatics Canada. The NTDB has been tiled by NTS map sheets (example 40P/3 for 1:50,000 scale or 40P for 1:250,000 scale). Indexes are available online and at the Map and Data Centre. Each tile contains and XML format indicating the version of the data, available themes, etc.
Coordinate system: Geographic (Lat. and Long.)
Source format: ESRI Shapefiles (ArcGIS)
Updated: To the most current edition of the corresponding NTS map
For scanned and georeferenced topographic maps of Canada, see the CanMatrix product.

Data Manipulation / Usage
The Map and Data Centre has 2 GIS workstations equipped with ArcGIS 10.0 and other software to explore/manipulate the data. UWO users may also copy requested resources to a data storage device (ex. USB flash drive, CD-R) for research or teaching use outside of the library. Natural Resources Canada should be cited in any maps or graphics generated.
