Shared Library Catalogue - Searching by Title Page 1 of 3

You can do a Title Search to see if the Library has a book, video, DVD, music score or sound recording (CD or LP) with a known title. For recordings, it is the name of the Album or CD title for which you can do a title search, not the names of individual songs or pieces on the CD.

To search for works by a known title:

1. From Western Libraries homepage, click on the CATALOGUE button on the top toolbar.

2. Under Classic Search, select Title in the Search box.

3. Type in the title and click on the Go (search) button.

When typing a title search:

  • You can ignore capital letters and punctuation.
  • Leave out the following words: a, an, the (and their equivalents in other languages - der, die, ein, le, la, etc.) if they are the first word in a title.
Therefore to find the book "The Life of Beethoven," you would type:

4. You do not have to type a full title. The Catalogue will search for titles that begin with the words you type. You could search for the above title simply by typing:

and you will still pull up a list that includes The Life of Beethoven, as seen in the example below.

This is especially helpful when you can't remember how to spell something (like Beethoven's name).

To go to the next page, click on the one search request below that is typed correctly.
