PRINTING CHANGES IN THE LAW LIBRARY

As part of the Law Library’s ongoing commitment to improve continuous patron services we have installed two new high-speed Ricoh printers. One printer, available to everyone, is located next to the library’s Service Desk. The other printer, situated in our Teaching Lab, is for law students.

To use the new printers a patron needs to do the following:

1)      Issue the print command on your laptop, library workstation, or lab PC. Select “Library on KAT” as your printing location.

2)      Insert your Western Libraries photocopy/printer card into the library printer release station.

3)      Sign onto the printer release station computer using your Western username, select your print job, and give the print      command. Your job will be printed at the Ricoh printer connected to that station.

Transitioning to these new printers offers several benefits to patrons including high-speed printing, and the convenience of releasing their print job at any Ricoh printing station on campus. The self-serve process means users can top up their print funds themselves without library staff intervention.

Printing through the Ricoh printers costs $0.09 per page. It requires a Western Libraries photocopy/printer card which can be purchased at any Western Libraries Service Desk for $1.00. Cards can be loaded at library photocopiers.

While Ricoh printers in the Law Library are operational now, law students may continue to load money on to their PCounter accounts until January 29th. Students are encouraged to use up any remaining credit on their PCounter accounts, (by printing to the Toshiba printer in the Research Lab), as soon as possible. Any remaining PCounter funds will expire on May 1st, 2010.

Printing revenues from the Ricoh printers will partially offset Teaching Lab costs, (including the replacement and upgrading of lab equipment).
