24/7 Library Hours Are Back!

The 24/7 library is back, following a pilot of 24/7 hours at The D.B. Weldon Library during the April 2010 exam period.

From December 10-17 Weldon Library will be open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. In addition Weldon will be open until 2 a.m. December 8-9 and December 18-20. Taylor Library will be open until midnight from December 8-20. These hours have been set based on use patterns identified during the April pilot which indicated highest library use during the first ten days of exams.

As during the April pilot, students should note that student identification (i.e. WesternONE card) will be required to enter both Weldon and Taylor Libraries after 9 p.m. from December 8-20, with voluntary backpack checks also taking place during this time. In order to ensure a safe and clean environment for students security patrols will be increased and parts of the library closed for cleaning from time to time. These changes have been made in consultation with student representatives who have been informed of the concerns identified by library users and staff during the introduction of 24/7 hours last April through a presentation to the USC University Affairs Committee by Western Libraries administration.

Students are encouraged to keep safe and be healthy during exams. A campaign focusing on productive study habits and a student developed (in cooperation with EnviroWestern) waste reduction campaign are in the works; watch for tips on how you can help ensure 24/7 library hours continue to be a success at Western.

A jointly-funded venture between Western Libraries and various student groups during the April pilot, 24/7 library hours are being entirely funded by Western Libraries during the upcoming exam period.

Western Libraries appreciates the ongoing dialogue with our users that has resulted in the continuation of 24/7 library hours. If you have feedback on this or any other library initiative please share it with us through Have Your Say http://www.lib.uwo.ca/contact/comments.html.
