  • BIOSIS Previews is a comprehensive index of life sciences and biomedical research worldwide including: journals, meetings, patents, and books. Biological Abstracts (which indexes over 5,000 journals) and Biological Abstracts/RRM ( reports, reviews & meetings) comprise BIOSIS Previews. A complete literature search of Biological Abstracts can be accomplished by searching BIOSIS Previews online and the following print indexes: Biological Abstracts 1926-1979. TUTORIAL
  • A digital library of scholarly resources from and about Africa.  Includes the African Plants collection.

SciFinder is a key database for chemistry, chemical and biochemical engineering, environmental sciences, materials science, and geochemistry. Its coverage includes journal articles, conference papers and patents from many patent issuing organizations. You can search by research topic, chemical substance, structure and substructure.

Individual users must register for an account. Registration is a two-part process and must be completed from within the University's IP range. We recommend that you don't use your Western Identity username and password when registering for a SciFinder web account. Register Now for your own SciFinder Web account - Restricted to UWO faculty, staff, and students. Please be aware that your SciFinder account is for your own use only, must not be shared with anyone, and must not be used for any commercial research.

    Features
    - Web version system requirements
    - Stay up to date with literature in your area using 'Keep Me Posted' alerting feature
    - Western Libraries' subscription allows up to 10 simultaneous users to use SciFinder: please quit the program as soon as you have finished (you will be automatically disconnected after 15 minutes inactivity); if see a message saying "Your allocated system resources are currently unavailable to access SciFinder," please try again later
    - Off-campus access using EZ-Proxy
    - Export selected references to RefWorks, refer to the instruction for importing references from SciFinder into RefWorks.

  • Includes MEDLINE, PREMEDLINE and unique citations from the following now defunct IGM databases : AIDSLINE, BIOETHICSLINE, HISTLINE, and HealthSTAR. Produced by the National Library of Medicine, PubMed is an international bibliographic database of over 4500 biomedical journals. It covers the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system and the preclinical sciences from 1966 to the present. Link outs to select full text articles are also available from PubMed. Only link outs for journals in which Western Libraries or individuals have subscriptions are accessible. A complete search of PubMed's precursor medical indexes from 1879-1966 can be done by using the following printed indexes: Index Medicus 1879-1898/99, 1903-1925/26; Bibliographica medica 1900-1902 ; Quarterly Cumulative Index Medicus 1927-1956; Current List of Medical Literature 1957-1959 and Cumulated Index Medicus 1960-1966.

  • A client server tool for retrieving information from databases produced by Chemical Abstracts Service (CAS). CAS databases contain more than 14 million documents from more than 8000 journals. Documents include journals, patents, book reviews, meeting abstracts, dissertations, conference proceedings and technical reports. Subject coverage is broad in scope covering chemistry, chemical engineering, biochemistry, physiology, pharmacology, toxicology, biology and environmental topics. SciFinder Scholar can be used to search for any of over 20 million chemical substances including organic compounds, inorganic compounds, coordination compounds, stereoisomers etc. One may also use a powerful "substructure searching mode" that searches a structure as a substructure of more complex structures. Subject searching is achieved using a unique natural language search engine that presents the user with a choice of search results. Full text of original documents is available via the ChemPort Connection provided that UWO has paid for online access to the journal. Frequent users of this database who have a prescribed Internet connection may wish to download the client softwareFor more information on SciFinder Scholar, see SciFinder Scholar.
  • Provides access to three multidisciplinary databases of bibliographic information indexed so that you can search for specific articles by subject, author, journal, and/or author address. Each Web of Science database includes the article's cited reference list (often called its bibliography). This unique feature allows searching for articles that cite a known author or work. Tutorial
