Databases

  • You will find citations and abstracts of basic and applied research in aeronautics, astronautics and space sciences in this database.  Also included are NASA and other U.S. government agency reports.

  • Although PsycINFO is usually used by Psychology researchers, this database also includes many aviation-related topics, especially human factors.  A quick tip: to ensure that you find everything on your topic, try using the Thesaurus.  You'll find it under the Search Tools tab.

Dictionaries

  • An easy-to-read aviation dictionary with over 7400 terms and 2400 illustrations.  Located in Weldon Reference: TL 509.K863 2005

  • A thorough list of aerospace terms followed by brief definitions.  This is a great resource for finding the meaning of aerospace acronyms.  Located in Weldon Reference: TL 509.G85 2009.
  • Provides detailed, technical definitions of aeronautical terms. Some illustrations included where helpful. Located in Weldon Reference: TL 509.C73 1997

Encyclopedias

  • The Airline Encyclopedia, 1909-2000, provides in-depth, year-by-year descriptions of the operations of many global commerical aviation companies which were in business between 1909 and 2000. Excellent resource for airline research.  Located in Weldon Reference: TL 515.S45 2002
  • Divided into 13 sections and organized alphabetically within each section, the entries in International Encyclopedia of Ergonomics and Human Factors provide a clear and simple outline of the topics as well as precise and practical information. The book reviews applications, tools, and innovative concepts related to ergonomic research. Available online.
  • This encyclopedia is a great starting place when exploring new technical language.  It is easy to use and authoritative.  Located in Weldon Reference: TL509.B75 2003
  • Searchable by both keyword and browsing, the International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences offers in-depth entries on a wide range of topics.  This is a great place to find background information on unfamiliar topics as well as references for further reading. Available online.
  • This three-volume encyclopedia set covers a broad range of topics from aerodynamic terms and principles to aircraft design to biographies of pioneers in aviation.  Located in Weldon Reference: TL509.E557 2002
