The Top 200: Canada's Largest Companies(c1973-74)

     This list is provided for those who are interested in the historical development of Canada's commercial sector. Apart from providing an historical snapshot our purpose is to indicate where such data can be found. In this instance the source is: "The Top 200: Canada's Largest Corporations," by Pamela Hughes, Canadian Business, Vol.48, No.7, July, 1975, p.11. The tables are found on pp.11-12 and also include data about sales, assets, net income and numbers of employees. The criteria are outlined on p.11 and there are also footnotes to the charts that should be consulted. Included among the 200 are both private and public companies, although it is noted that some private companies were not included because of a lack of data.  Crown corporations are not included and it is indicated that if they were, Air Canada would have ranked 23rd in operating revenue and that CNR would have been in the 7th position. Copies of Canadian Business are held in the Western Libraries.
