Canadian Centennial Companies

The Canadian Manufacturers' Association published in May 1967 a special centennial issue of the periodical Industrial Canada. In it one finds profiles of over 100 Canadian companies that were over 100 years old. For the convenience of scholars those profiles have been scanned and they can be found in the alphabetical lists of company histories produced by the Business Library. As well, we provide them all together in the list below.

A print copy of Industrial Canada is available in the Business Library at the University of Western Ontario. It ceased publication in the 1970s, but the Canadian Manufacturers' Association continues as Canadian Manufacturers & Exporters. "By today's standards there were comparatively few manufacturing companies in all the length and breadth of what is now Canada at the time of Confederation. Predictably, many of these have disappeared, for one reason or another, in the century that has elapsed since. But some survive and, having adapted to the needs and demands of the Twentieth Century, continue to thrive in the most intensely competitive era man has ever known.

Most -but not all-of the Canadian manufacturing companies that are a century or more old are represented in these pages. Regrettably, and despite our best research, some have eluded us, we know.

In saluting these companies as we now do in the ensuing pages of this Centennial Issue, we commemorate the inestimable contribution made to Canada's industrial growth and progress over the past 100 years by manufacturing enterprisesof every type and size and in every province. They have made Canada the advanced industrial nation it is today."
