  • This database offers the full text of many leading Canadian news sources via the ProQuest Interface. Canadian Newsstand Major Dailies provides full access to articles, columns, editorials and feature articles. Database content is updated daily, following a two-day embargo period.
  • This collection focuses on Canadian information in the field of education. It is the perfect source for those interested in teaching, educational research, and educational administration in Canada. Over 400 journals are in the collection, with file depth back to the 1970s. Academic, administrative, professional, and topical journals are all included, as are newsletters.
  • This is a collection of monograph publications from Canadian public policy institutes, government agencies, advocacy groups, think-tanks, university research centres and other public interest groups. The organizations included in this collection represent the leading edge of primary research and opinion in all areas of Canadian public policy.

  • Provides subject, title, and author access to almost all American dissertations accepted at an accredited institution since 1861. Masters theses have been selectively indexed since 1962. Abstracts are included for doctoral dissertation records from July 1980 to the present. The full text of over 100,000 dissertations is available now at this Web site. In addition, the database serves to disseminate citations for thousands of Canadian dissertations and an increasing number of papers accepted in institutions abroad. Professional (e.g., M.D., LL.D.) and honorary degrees are not included. It includes Dissertations abstracts online (DAO) and the electronic version of: Comprehensive dissertation index supplement; Dissertation abstracts, sections A-C; Masters abstracts international (formerly issued in print).
  • Contains abstracts, 24-page previews, and full text of dissertations and theses submitted by the University of Western Ontario and constitutes a subset of ProQuest UMI's Dissertations and theses

  • The ProQuest ERIC PlusText database with full text and/or full image articles from nearly 260 leading journals is an indispensable source of information for both professional educators and students who need to keep up with the latest teaching concepts, methodologies, and research findings. Cross disciplinary in nature, it also includes articles from the social sciences and the humanities. Researchers can use ProQuest ERIC PlusText to find detailed information on adult education, special and gifted education, educational management, assessment and evaluation, reading and communication, home schooling, and hundreds of other related topics. This is primarily an American source, but some Canadian information is included. The coverage is from 1966 to the present.
  • This is a comprehensive resource for the field of education. Of the 550 journals indexed and abstracted, more than 300 are provided in full text. The database includes not only the standard journals for educators at all levels but also periodicals for professionals in related fields including AIDS education, human development, child abuse and developmental psychology.
  • Covers the professional and academic literature in psychology and related disciplines including medicine, psychiatry, nursing, sociology, education, pharmacology, linguistics and other areas. Coverage is worldwide and includes references and abstracts to over 1,300 journals in more than 20 languages, and to book chapters and books in the English language. Over 57,000 references are added annually. Popular literature is excluded.
  • Professional Development Collection provides a highly specialized collection of electronic information especially for professional educators, professional librarians and education researchers. This collection offers information on everything from children's health & development to cutting-edge pedagogical theory & practice. It includes the full text for Chronicle of Higher Education, Educational Leadership, Journal of Education, Journal of Higher Education, Journal of Learning Disabilities, Theory Into Practice, and nearly 600 additional education and library science journals. This database also provides full text for more than 165 education pamphlets and will soon contain full text for scholarly monographs.

Statistics and Data

  • The Composite Learning Index (CLI) is Canada’s annual measure of progress in lifelong learning. It is based on a combination of statistical indicators that reflect the many ways Canadians learn, whether in school, in the home, at work or within the community.

  • The Education Quality and Accountability Office (EQAO) is an independent provincial agency funded by the Government of Ontario. EQAO’s mandate is to conduct province-wide tests at key points in every student’s primary, junior and secondary education and report the results to educators, parents and the public.

    EQAO acts as a catalyst for increasing the success of Ontario students by measuring their achievement in reading, writing and mathematics in relation to Ontario Curriculum expectations.

  • The Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC) is an intergovernmental body founded in 1967 by ministers of education to serve as 

    • a forum to discuss policy issues
    • a mechanism through which to undertake activities, projects, and initiatives in areas of mutual interest
    • a means by which to consult and cooperate with national education organizations and the federal government
    • an instrument to represent the education interests of the provinces and territories internationally

    

  • The mission of the Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) is to promote policies that will improve the economic and social well-being of people around the world.

     

  • The National Center for Education Statistics (NCES) (see Organizational Chart) is the primary federal entity for collecting and analyzing data related to education in the U.S. and other nations. NCES is located within the U.S. Department of Education and the Institute of Education Sciences.

  • An interactive database containing articles from Canadian Social Trends and the latest edition of the Canada Year Book. Also includes Canadian social and economic data from the CANSIM database, as well as current and historical Census data dating back to 1665.

  • Statistics Canada produces statistics in the following areas: population, resources, economy, society and culture. Statitsics include Census information plus approximately 350 surveys on "virtually all aspects of Canadian life."

  • Index of Canadian historical economic and social science statistics, including access to statistical tables. This volume contains about 1,088 statistical tables from the start of the Confederation in 1867 to the mid-1970s.

  • The UNESCO Institute for Statistics (UIS) is the statistical branch of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organisation (UNESCO). The Institute produces the data and methodologies to monitor trends at national and international levels. It delivers comparative data for countries at all stages of development to provide a global perspective on education, science and technology, culture, and communication.

  • A jointly funded project between the Ontario Council of University Libraries (OCUL) and OntarioBuys provides university researchers with access to datasets in a web-based data extraction system delivered through the Scholars Portal model. The project targets Statistics Canada datasets, datafiles from Gallup Canada and other polling companies, public-domain files such as the Canadian National Election Surveys and selected files from the Inter-University Consortium for Political and Social Research (ICPSR).

  • Education economists analyze both what determines or creates education and what impact education has on individuals and the societies and economies in which they live. Historically at the World Bank a great deal of emphasis has been placed on determining outcomes to educational investment and the creation of human capital.
