Organization Charts

COMPANY ORGANIZATION CHARTS

The staff members in the Johnston Library are frequently asked for sample organization charts. As a result, we have identified as many in our collection as we could find and are providing a list of them here for your convenience. They range chronologically from the 1950s to 2007 and they illustrate the corporate structures of companies from around the world. The charts will be found in 7 sources that are listed below. If the name of the company is followed by the number 2, for example, this means that the chart for that company will be found in the second reference source. The sources are:

1. Company Organization Charts: Studies in Personnel Policy, No. 139, National Industrial Conference Board. HF 5549.A2N27. 1953
2. Corporate Organization Structures: Studies in Personnel Policy, No. 183, National Industrial Conference Board. HF 5549.A2N27. 1961.
3. Organization Structures of International Companies: Studies in Personnel Policy, No. 198, National Industrial Conference Board. HF 5549.ASN27. 1965.
4. Organization Charts: Structures of More Than 200 Businesses and Non-Profit Organizations, ed. by Judith M. Nixon, HD 58.65.074. 1992.
5. Understanding the Company Organization Chart, K. K. White, HD 21.A6.No.56 1963.
6. Organization Charts: Structures of 230 Business, Government Agencies, and Non-Profit Organizations, ed. by Nick Sternberg and Scott Heil, 3rd. ed. HD58.65.O74 2000.
7. The Conference Board Chart Collection. Conference Board. BUSREF HD 2741.C645 2006 v.1-5.

The Conference Board (U.S.) sells organization charts. For details, visit this site (or see samples from the Conference Board in our Reference Collection -#7 above):

In addition to the list of "org. charts" we are providing a table that outlines the reasons why 118 companies developed them. That list was taken from the White source noted above (#5).
