ISO 14000
According to a survey conducted by the consulting firm Arthur D. Little, it is strongly believed that ISO 14000 certifications will be essential to business success and an entrance requirement for those competing in the global marketplace (“Survey: High Regard for ISO 14000”, Chemical Week, Vol. 157, No.17, Nov.8, 1995 - available on BPO in the Business Library). The primary objective of ISO 14000 is to provide a universal harmonized system for developing environmental standards.

Although ISO 14000 is not yet designated as a specific subject, articles about the environmental standards are easily located on ABI/Inform and other databases. As of July 1997 the phrase “ISO 14000” yields 118 “hits” for the period from Jan. 1996 to June 1997. The first occurrence of the term on ABI is found in an article written in July of 1994.
