Morgan teaches at the Schulich School of Business at York University in Toronto and some biographical information is available at that School's web site. For additional biographical material see Charles HampdenTurner's essay on Morgan in the
International Encyclopedia of Business & Management: The Handbook of Management Thinking, ed. by Malcolm Warner. In that essay it is noted that "Morgan's metaphors, which condense over one thousand books and eight scholarly paradigms into and action-oriented thesis, are a marked achievement and an invaluable exercise for the reflective strategist. By bringing the richness of a wide variety of sciences into organization studies and and making explicit the links between other forms and forms of organization, he has given us a different view of organization themselves; a sometimes contradictory view, to be sure, but one whose contradictions are mirrored in real life." For other discussions in books of Morgan's work see: "Some Consequences of Taking Gareth Morgan Seriously", by Iain L. Mangham in
Metaphor and Organization by David Grant and Cliff Oswick and the brief sketch in Vol. 4 of
Theories and Models in Applied Behavioral Science in the section dealing with "Organizational Culture (p.115)
Articles about Morgan's work and reviews of his books are not difficult to find using electronic databases such as ProQuest ABI/Inform Global Research. For assistance with searching that database or suggestions about other options, contact a staff member in the Business Library.
The bibliography below was copied from, what appears to be, an 'official' web site in October 2002. The only alteration that has been made is that the titles of books and journals have been linked if they are found in the collections of the Western Libraries.
