Databases

  • Scopus is a large abstract and citation database of research literature and quality web sources. Scopus covers 29 million abstracts of over 15,000 peer-reviewed titles from more than 4,000 publishers, 265 million references and 265 million quality web pages through Scirus' web search to cover the scientific web. This includes cited and citing references.

  • Provides access to three multidisciplinary databases of bibliographic information indexed so that you can search for specific articles by subject, author, journal, and/or author address. Each Web of Science database includes the article's cited reference list (often called its bibliography). This unique feature allows searching for articles that cite a known author or work. Tutorial

  • SciFinder is a key database for chemistry, chemical and biochemical engineering, environmental sciences, materials science, and geochemistry. Its coverage includes journal articles, conference papers and patents from many patent issuing organizations. You can search by research topic, chemical substance, structure and substructure.

    Individual users must register for an account. Registration is a two-part process and must be completed from within the University's IP range. We recommend that you don't use your Western Identity username and password when registering for a SciFinder web account.   • INSPEC includes over 6 million abstracts and bibliographic records of articles published in the fields of physics; information technology; and electrical, electronic, and computer engineering. The database indexes over 8000 journals and is one of the few sources for many computer science conferences.

  • This is a collection of full-text, searchable engineering handbooks, including the Bridge Engineering Handbook, Handbook of Groundwater Engineering and Civil Engineering Handbook. Topics cover a wide range of engineering disciplines. ENGnetBASE is a good starting point for gathering information on a topic.
