  • The Excerpta Medica database (EMBASE) provides access to information on medical and drug-related subjects. It contains citations and abstracts from over 5000 biomedical journals from 70 countries.
  • The Cochrane Library is a collection of databases - including the Cochrane Database of Systematic Reviews, the Cochrane Central Register of Controlled Trials and others - that contain high-quality information regarding the effects of various interventions in health care.
  • Scopus is an abstracts database covering articles from peer-reviewed titles, including international publishers. Subject coverage includes: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Engineering; Life and Health Sciences; Social Sciences, Psychology and Economics; Biological, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; and General Sciences.

Clinical Tools

  • DynaMed is an evidence-based, clinical reference tool created by physicians for physicians and other health care professionals for use primarily at the 'point-of-care.' DynaMed contains AHFS drug information, article references, medical calculators, patient information, and thousands of topics organized into clinical summaries. Content in DynaMed is updated daily.

    In order to obtain or renew a Dynamed Mobile serial number either send an email to dynamedsupport@ebscohost.com  or phone 1-800-758-5995. Please include or have available your full name, the name of institution, and the type of device you are using. You must provide a valid Western email address, ie. one that ends with @uwo.ca in order to receive a serial number. The serial number will be emailed to the @uwo.ca address you provide.  .


  • The American College of Physicians' Physicians' Information and Education Resource offers a Web-based evidence-based clinical guidance designed for rapid access to clinical information at the point of care by physicians and other health care providers.
  • Essential Evidence Plus is a tool that makes it possible to search a number of medical information resources and decision support calculators simultaneously. The resources include the Cochrane database of systematic reviews, clinical practice guidelines, patient education handouts and summaries - called POEMs (Patient Oriented Evidence that Matters) - on various medical topics. Western libraries' subscription to this resource includes a free download of the PDA version.
