Company Resources

  • Use 'Get Company Info' search box to find in-depth company information, including financials, product listings, industry summaries and more.  Search by company name or ticker symbol.
  • If you need details about how a particular company got started, the particulars of its merger and acquisitions activities or a list of important dates in the company's history, then start here.  International Directory of Company Histories is easy to use and is filled with detailed, narrative-style entries.
  • Mergent provides a tremendous breadth and depth of company information.  Two features of interest are the ability to build reports based on your criteria of interest and downloadable charts which compare competitors' financial data.
  • Forrester provides excellent technology industry analysis reports focusing on new media, software, networking and telecommunications.  A password is required and is available via the library catalogue using your UWO ID.

Databases

  • This database is a great place to find articles about business, economics and politics.  Note that both scholarly and popular sources are included.  Use the limiting features to narrow down your search.

  • This database provides a wealth of scholarly sources for business research.  Some articles are indexed only while many others are available in full-text.  Also available are SWOT analyses, market research and industry analyses.

  • PsycINFO is a great resource for MOS.  You will find research articles on management, leadership, human resources, marketing and more.  Explore the breadth of available research using the Thesaurus located on the Search Tools tab.
  • CBCA Reference provides access to a wide range of Canadian journal articles, newletters and magazines focusing on the arts, social sciences and sciences as well as opinion, health, public policy and regional concerns.  The Browse Topics link is useful for narrowing your search.
  • CBCA Business provides access to almost 500 Canadian business periodicals, including academic, trade and professional publications.  Take advantage of the variety of search options, including searching by author, company name or NAICS code.

Encyclopedias

  • Written by professionals in the field, this online encyclopedia includes essays written on a wide variety of management topics, including supply chain management, aggregate planning and productivity measures.
  • Searchable by both keyword and browsing, the International Encyclopedia of the Social & Behavioral Sciences offers in-depth entries on a wide range of topics.  This is a great place to find background information on unfamiliar topics as well as references for further reading.  Available online.
  • Offers a comprehensive overview of the major ideas, concepts and approaches that characterize the diverse field of organization studies.  Themes include leadership theory, innovation and creativity, philosophy of organizations and many more. Located in Weldon Reference: HD31.I585 2008

  • Provides a thorough understanding of the theoretical underpinnings of globalization as well as the various historical and analytical interpretations.  Consisting of over 400 entries, coverage includes key cultural, ecological, economic, geographical, historical, political, psychological and social aspects of globalization.  Available in Weldon Reference: JZ1318.E63 2007

News Sources

  • Factiva provides access to news from over 8000 sources, available from 118 countries in 22 languages.  There are 96 Canadian publications including The Globe & Mail, Toronto Star and National Post. Extensive company and industry search capabilities are available.
  • This collection includes Canadian titles focusing on current events.  Current events is interpreted broadly to include politics, business, the arts, sports, and any other kind of news, whether it is happening in Canada or abroad.  Newspapers, newswires and newsmagazines are included.
  • Provides access to the full-text from a selection of major Canadian news sources.
  • LexisNexis provides access to over 2,300 newspapers, journals, newsletters and broadcast transcripts. Most of the items in LexisNexis are available in full-text.
  • A source of polls, public opinion and research information on a variety of industry topics including politics, health, technology and finance.
