Produced by the National Library of Medicine, PubMed is an international bibliographic database covering the fields of medicine, nursing, dentistry, veterinary medicine, the health care system and the preclinical sciences.
  • EI Compendex is the online version of the Engineering Index. It indexes engineering journals, conferences, and technical reports, covering all engineering disciplines.
  • This database includes millions of abstracts and bibliographic records of articles published in the fields of physics; information technology; and electrical, electronic, and computer engineering. The database indexes thousands of journals and is one of the few sources for many computer science conferences. Full text links are available for selected journals.
  • Scopus is an abstracts database covering articles from peer-reviewed titles, including international publishers. Subject coverage includes: Chemistry, Physics, Mathematics and Engineering; Life and Health Sciences; Social Sciences, Psychology and Economics; Biological, Agricultural and Environmental Sciences; and General Sciences.
  • Web of Science provides access to three multidisciplinary databases of bibliographic information indexed so that you can search for specific articles by subject, author, journal, and/or author address. Each Web of Science database includes the article's cited reference list (often called its bibliography). This unique feature allows searching for articles that cite a known author or work.

Documents from 1790 to 1975 can only be searched by patent number or Patent Classificaiton number. Images can be viewed on machines which have an application that allows viewing of TIFF image files. A plug-in to enable viewing of TIFF files can be downloaded from the site.

Primary Resources

  • IEEE Xplore is the IEEE's electronic library. It holds all IEEE and IEE (Britain's Institution of Electrical Engineers) journals and conference proceedings published since 1988 as well as all current IEEE standards.
  • The SPIE Digital Library is the most extensive resource available on optics and photonics, providing unprecedented access to more than 200,000 technical papers from SPIE Journals and Conference Proceedings. Thousands of new technical papers are added annually. The Proceedings of SPIE comprise nearly 6000 volumes from conferences sponsored or cosponsored by SPIE since 1963.

Statistics and Data

  • A fully searchable online version of the current edition of the CRC Handbook, this resource provides physical and chemical data on thousands of organic and inorganic compounds as well as scientific abbreviations and symbols, acid-base indicators and chemical structure diagrams. Special features of the electronic version include cross-table searching and synonym browsing.
  • TAY stack NO LOAN QH513.D38 1996
  • Site includes a physical constants database.
  • CRC ENGnetBASE is a compilation of essential engineering information from world-renowned experts in the engineering community. Included are the contents of many of the CRC handbooks dealing with a broad range of disciplines with in-depth coverage of some of the most significant topics in the engineering field today including electric power and distributed generation, electric packaging, mechatronics, wireless communication and digital signal processing. The full text of the articles can be printed or downloaded.

Web Sites

  • Scirus (the scientific search engine) enables scientists and students to comprehensively search the web for science-specific information. The Scirus search engine charts and pinpoints data, locates university sites and finds reports and articles quickly and easily. A unique feature of this search engine is the suggested list of terms that appear most frequently in your search results which can be use in search refinement.
