Advanced Searching in PubMed

PubMed is a database from the United States' National Library of Medicine (NLM). It provides access to more than 17 million citations and abstracts from biomedical journals. PubMed is searchable on the web at no cost and is useful for finding published health and other related information.

By the end of the tutorial, you will be able to:

  • Formulate search strategies and search PubMed effectively
  • Use the Medical Subject Headings (MeSH) database to find appropriate search terms
  • Save searches and set up alerts using MyNCBI
  • Start with incomplete citations and retrieve corresponding abstracts or link to full text articles using the Single Citation Matcher
  • Conduct searches using PubMed’s Clinical Queries feature
