Personal Bibliographic Citation Managers

What are personal bibliographic citation managers?

Personal bibliographic citation managers are tools for recording and using bibliographic citations. Most citation managers allow you to import citations from bibliographic databases, enter citations manually, store and manage citations, insert citations into documents, and create bibliographies. Citation managers save you from searching for that key resource you need to cite but cannot remember exactly where it was retrieved from. When you import citations into citation management software as you come across useful information, you save yourself a lot of work and stress later on when it comes time to compile your bibliography.

There are many personal bibliographic citation managers available including EndNote, BibTex, Reference Manager, and RefWorks.
