To find journal articles you need to match your topic with the right database.  To find the best database for your topic, try our program guides.  A short list of some of our many databases appears beneath this video.  Use the advanced search option, if available, because it usually provides more search boxes.  Using the rules found in the previous videos on Putting Together your Search Terms and Refining your Search with Fields, run your search and look at the results.  Here you can see the titles of articles, their authors, the names of the journals they were published in, volume, page and issue numbers, and dates of publication.  This is all very interesting, but what we really want is the article.  Some databases contain the fulltext PDFs.  That’s easy.  Other databases require you to click the Get It @ Western button to find out if Western Libraries has a particular article online or in print.  If you run into any trouble, try reading our Get it @ Western not working tutorial, or ask for help at the Research Help Desk.
