Frequently Asked Questions

Weldon Library will be closed August 4-12, 2012 for electrical system upgrades. During that time, no one will be able to enter the building. Here’s what you need to know about the closure:

What services will be affected by the Weldon closure?

Will I be able to access the Archives and Research Collections Centre?
Where can I pick up my requested items (holds) that I usually get at Weldon?
Can my requested items (holds) be sent to another library location?
Where can I pick up my ILL material that I usually get at Weldon?

What services will be affected by the Weldon closure?

There will be no access to any materials, equipment or rooms in Weldon or the Archives and Research Collections Centre (ARCC)*. This includes the Pride Library, Teaching Support Centre**, and Services for Students with Disabilities. There will be no access to individual or group study rooms. Requests for items in Weldon (holds) will be delayed. Electronic document delivery and retrievals from Storage will not be available.

Circulation services will be available from any other Western Libraries location. Research Help services will be available in person at the Taylor Library, as well as by phone, email and Western Libraries chat service, available from the Western Libraries homepage. Western Libraries digital resources will be available, including e-books, e-journals and online databases.

The Western Archives Records Centre will not be filling retrieval requests for departmental records, or accepting new transfers. All requests will be deferred until August 13, 2012. For further information please contact retrievals@uwo.ca.

Will I be able to access the Archives and Research Collections Centre?

There will be no access to any materials, equipment or rooms in the Archives and Research Collections Centre (ARCC). Electronic document delivery and retrievals from Storage will not be available, and all requests received after 1pm on Friday August 3 will be processed on Monday August 13. The Western Archives Records Centre will not be filling retrieval requests for departmental records, or accepting new transfers, and all requests will be deferred until August 13.


Where can I pick up my requested items (holds) that I usually get at Weldon? 

You can pick up your requested items at the Taylor Library from August 3-12. See hours for Taylor Library (Taylor will be closed on weekends and the Civic Holiday).

All items that are on the Weldon Hold Shelf will be sent to Taylor on Thursday August 2 and will be available there in the afternoon, and as of Friday August 3 any new requests will be delivered to Weldon starting August 13. You may also select as a pick-up location any other Western Libraries location or Affiliated College Library (except for Huron, which will also be closed.) Holds will be available at Weldon again on the afternoon of Monday August 13. If you have any questions during the week of August 4-12, see the staff at Taylor Library.


Can my requested items (holds) be sent to another library location?

Yes; use My Library Account if you want to change your pick-up location for a request(s). You must select the pick-up location for each item you have requested. Once a Hold is in transit, you cannot change its pick-up location.

Where can I pick up my ILL material that I usually get at Weldon? 

You can pick up your ILL material at the Taylor Library from August 3-12. All ILL materials that are at Weldon will be sent to Taylor on Thursday August 2 and will be available there in the afternoon. ILL materials will be available at Weldon again on the afternoon of Monday August 13. If you have any questions about your ILL requests, contact ILL staff.

Where do I get my Course Reserves that are at Weldon Service Desk? 
 
You can pick up your Course Reserves at the Taylor Library from August 3-12. All Course Reserves that are at Weldon will be sent to Taylor on Thursday August 2 and will be available there in the afternoon. Course Reserves will be available at Weldon again on the afternoon of Monday August 13.

Can I borrow Course Reserve books that are available for 3 day loan? 

There will be no access to 3 day loan Course Reserve items from August 4-12. Sign out any 3 day loan Course Reserves books before August 4. You will be able to check them out for a longer period.

Where can I go to use a microfilm reader or printer?

Microfilm and microfiche readers are available in the Music Library. A microfilm printer is also available at this location.

What if I need a book that is in my study room?  

There will be no access to Weldon Library from August 4-12. You must get everything you need from your study room before August 4.

What if a book in my study room is recalled?

You are responsible for returning the book as soon as possible after Weldon re-opens on Monday August 13. See library staff if you have any questions.

I often use the Weldon daily study rooms. Will there be any study rooms available that week?

There are six group study rooms in the Taylor Library. They can be booked online at http://www.lib.uwo.ca/taylor/roombooking

Can I request a book from Weldon stacks to be sent for pick up at another library? 

Weldon books will not be available for request from August 4-12. Requesting will resume on Monday August 13.

Can I request a book or Electronic Document Delivery from Storage?

The Electronic Document Delivery Service and retrievals of materials with the locations Storage Use Request item and Storage Lib Use only will be suspended during the closure period. All requests received after 1pm on Friday August 3 will be processed on Monday August 13.

Can I return my books in the Book Drop when Weldon is closed? 

The Weldon Book Drop will be closed. You may return your books at any other Western Libraries location or Affiliated College Library (except Huron, which will also be closed). The closest Western Libraries locations are Law and Taylor.

Will I be able to get Research Help from Weldon?

Research Help services will be available through Western Libraries chat service, available 11am-4pm from the Western Libraries homepage, as well as by phone and email. In-person Research Help will be available at the Taylor Library.


How do I contact staff who normally work in Weldon Library or in Archives?

Please use email for contact. Some of our staff will be working in different locations and some staff will be on vacation during the period.

Where do I go if my academic records are sealed for library charges?

You are encouraged to use the on-line feature (e-commerce) for payment of your fees including the seal removal fee. If you are paying by cash, please go to any of the other Library service desk locations. If you want to pay by debit or credit card, please go to the Taylor Library service desk. Library service desks will contact the Library Business Office in their temporary location to take care of removing the academic sanction (seal removal).
