Dr. Paul Stilwell McKibben
Faculty of Medicine

Tenure 1919-1920, 1921-1927


Dr. Paul Stilwell McKibben was born in Granville, Ohio in 1886. He graduated with a B.Sc. in zoology from Denison University and studied anatomy at the University of Chicago. Dr. McKibben received his Ph.D. in 1911 and accepted a position in the Department of Anatomy at the University of Chicago.

Dr. McKibben accepted the position of Professor of Anatomy at Western's Faculty of Medicine in 1913. In 1917, Dr. McKibben took a leave of absence to become a Lieutenant in the Sanitary Corps of the U.S. Army. In 1919, the Board of Governors at Western elected Dr. McKibben Dean of Medicine but he accepted the position of Acting Dean until 1921 when he became the official Dean of Medicine.

The University of Western Ontario awarded Dr. McKibben an honourary LL.D. degree in 1928 for the improvements he made to the medical school that made it into the Class A rating system for medical schools. Dr. McKibben died in 1941.
