Talent But No Title
After the exciting Vanier Cup win in 1989, fans, coaches and players highly anticipated the 1990 season. With experienced players such as Tyrone Williams as well as fresh talent like freshman Tim Tindale, the team seemed poised for another successful season. The Mustangs won the Yates Cup, but St. Mary’s University and their talented quarterback Chris Flynn managed a narrow victory at the Atlantic Bowl – 31-30 – crushing Western’s hopes of defending the national title. Despite having the talented Tim Tindale, who was voted most outstanding player in the Ontario University Athletics Association in both 1991 and 1993, the Mustangs would not win the Vanier Cup again until after this dominating player left to join the NFL.
