Western's Winter Sports Club
Women were involved in winter sports before they had the teams to do so. The Winter Sports Club was founded in January 1920 and women participated since its creation. In fact, in 1921, the president was a woman, Margaret Thomson, and the Club relied on her to plan events promptly when the weather was favorable.
Women also participated in other clubs and teams as the century unfolded. Women skated as early as 1934 and figure skated beginning in the 1960s. Ice hockey became available in the late 1930s but was only sporadically played for much of the century. Women participated in skiing and curling at the club level, and then competitively in the 1960s.
