Solway, Kenneth, The Story of the Chestnut Canoe.
online

There is another book about the Chestnut Canoe Company by Roger MacGregor – When the Chestnut Was in Flower: Inside the Chestnut Canoe, but it is not available in the Western Libraries. We were prompted to add this entry by an article by Gordon Pitts in The Globe and Mail which will be very useful for researchers interested in this truly Canadian industry. See: “Battling the Market Currents”, which is the cover story in the ROB on Saturday, July 3, 2010. (Mr. Pitts has authored many books contained in this bibliography.)

Along with remarks by some of the major artisans still in the business, you will find brief historic profiles of the following companies, as well as Chestnut:

SHARPE CANOES – Mann’s Mountain, N.B.
TEMAGAMI CANOES – Temagami, ON
RED RIVER CANOES – Lorette, Manitoba
