This book contains considerable information relating to other British department stores and it is well-illustrated. See also the interesting and still pertinent "Golden Rules of Customer Service" that were followed at Plummer Roddis (p.16).
Although established in the late 18th century, the name "Debenham" first appeared in 1813 as "Clark and Debenham". The company opened a number of stores throughout the country and by 1928 it was listed on the London Stock Exchange. It was ultimately acquired by the Burton Group, but in 1998 it once again became Debenhams and it is now once more listed on the LSE (2001).

DOLLARAMA

It has become a habit for us to include significant articles about Canadian companies since books about them generally do not exist. In this instance we call your attention to an informative piece about the Canadian chain Dollarama and its founder Larry Rossy. See: “The Genius of Dollarama: How a Small Quebec-Based Chain Became a Billion Dollar Retail Empire...”, by James Cowan, Canadian Business, Feb. 15, 2010. At this time (2010) Dollarama has more stores across Canada than Canadian Tire(594) and employs over 12,000 staff. Although the Rossy family has been in the retail business since early in the 20th century, the first Dollarama opened in Matane, Que. In 1992. In 2004, Rossy sold 80% of the company to Bain Capital Partners for roughly $1 billion. For an earlier profile see: “Dollar Man,” by Sean Silcoff, Canadian Business, Winter 2008/2009, Vol. 81, No.22, p.89. Rossy was also chosen as one of “Canada’s Entrepreneurs of the Decade,” : see Profit, Dec.2009/Jan. 2010, Vol. 28, No.6, p.44.

EBCO INDUSTRIES LTD.

Company Anniversary: 50 Years old in 2006
To celebrate their 50th anniversary the company placed a promotional feature in BCBusiness. See "Tech Pioneers: The Eppich Twins, Founders of B.C.'s Ebco Industries Celebrating 50 Years of Excellence in the Custom Manufacturing of Metal-Based Products...", Vol.34, No.10, October 2006.

For more information see:
"Ebco's Anniversary Marks 50 Years of Innovation in B.C.," Jim Jamieson, The Province, June 9, 2006, p.A49.
Although the brothers appear smiling together in the promotional piece, apparently they had differences in the past. There are several articles about their feuding in the period from 2002-2004 and here is an example of an earlier one: "Fiscal Fratricide's Fallout: Vancouver's Ebco Industries Suffers While its Owners Bicker," Rosemary Herbut, British Columbia Report, Vol.8, No.52, August 25, 1997, p.16.
