Big Things in the Works: The BIG REVEAL!

Published on November 18, 2015

Renovations on Taylor Library’s Main Floor are almost completed for this year! The plastic sheeting has come down to reveal new banquette seating in the light filled window area, as well as new casual seating in one portico space. New flooring, a refreshed color pallet and more power outlets round out these renovated spaces. Already very popular spots with our students!

Two of the six bookable collaborative learning rooms are ready to go, with the other four to follow soon. They all contain collaborative media tables and PCs, two of the rooms contain multi-view display screens and one will have an interactive projector. Book Now!

Our Research Help service will be offered in one collaborative room on weekdays.

Our new InfoDesk has been open since September with a few minor adjustments made as we use the space. It is located near the front entrance doors to the library.  A new book drop has been installed and once it is in service, it will automatically check in books!

We are also providing enhanced self-service options that include two self-check units, the hold shelf and course reserves. Our self-check units can now be used for both checkouts and checkins! Staff are available to assist you with these options during core hours.

We are excited to see this first phase of Taylor Library’s Main Floor transformation project near completion. These renovations are partially funded through gifts from friends of Western Libraries, with our thanks.

Early planning is underway for the second phase of Taylor Library’s Main floor renovations. The newly renovated spaces planned for Main Floor are being designed to meet the need for inviting, inspiring and collaborative learning & research spaces that we heard from our user community.
