Films on Demand subscription expiring

Published on April 28, 2015

On September 30, 2015, Western Libraries' subscription to Films on Demand will be discontinued. Films on Demand is a web-based digital video delivery platform that delivers licensed viewing of streaming videos on a range of educational topics.

Western Libraries recognizes the importance of streaming video to support teaching and learning. Based on cost and use, Films on Demand is not the best platform to provide this service. We take our role of expending the budget in a responsible manner very seriously and are looking at how to best collect this type of material.

If you currently use Films on Demand in your teaching, please note the following:

  • Western Libraries will purchase individual 3-year subscriptions for the most frequently used films. The list of films that will be purchased can be viewed here.
  • If your course requires a Films on Demand title NOT on this list, please make a purchase request to the Collections Librarian for your subject area.
  • Links in OWL leading to individual films from this package will need to be removed or changed by September 30, 2015.
  • An alert will appear in every Films on Demand title in the Library Catalogue, indicating that access will no longer be available as of September 30, 2015.
