Catherine Steeves renewed as Vice-Provost & Chief Librarian

Catherine SteevesWestern University has renewed Catherine Steeves's appointment as Vice-Provost & Chief Librarian for a second five-year term, commencing July 1, 2019 through June 30, 2024.

Informed by the external reviewers' report and other feedback gathered over the course of the past several months, the recommendation to renew Steeves's appointment enjoyed the unanimous support of the Senate-appointed Vice-Provost & Chief Librarian Selection Committee. The re-appointment was approved by the Senior Operations & Policy Committee of the Board of Governors.

The external reviewers, Vivian Lewis (University Librarian at McMaster University) and Tom Hickerson (former Vice-Provost and University Librarian at the University of Calgary), commended Steeves particularly in the areas of operational leadership, strategic planning and organizational renewal. The report concludes "the reviewers admire and endorse [Steeves's] commitment and ability to truly realize the 21st century library she was mandated to achieve … [We] see the organization and its leader as primed for great success in the coming years."

Steeves is pleased to continue to serve Western Libraries. She's proud of the achievements of Western Libraries' staff and leadership team over the past four years. "The entire organization has worked steadily and concertedly toward the objective of developing modern research library services. Library staff continue to innovate and provide excellent services and it's their good work and expertise that makes the library what it is and what it will become," said Steeves. She looks forward to taking on new opportunities and challenges in her next administrative term.
