Do you have the right tools for your Research on Teaching (RT) project? How do you know? In this interactive session, participants will work in small groups to generate a list of rules for creating good survey items from survey “cases” provided by the facilitator. These rules, supported by a discussion of the literature on measurement in RT, will then be used to create a set of new items in the participants’ research areas. Sound practices in finding and using existing measures will also be discussed; including issues concerning copyright, reliability, and validity.
