Western University Celebrates Day of Digital Humanities
Published on March 31, 2026
On Wednesday, March 18, Western University came together for Day of Digital Humanities (DH) — a global celebration of the ways digital tools and methods are transforming how we research, teach, and engage with culture.
Hosted by Western Libraries in the Scholars Lab at The D.B. Weldon Library, the event welcomed students, faculty, librarians, and staff from across campus for a full day of lightning talks, panel discussions, and hands-on workshops.
Participants got hands-on with everything from loom weaving and e-textiles to building AI agents, network visualization, and DIY zine publishing. Two sessions of lightning talks showcased the breadth of DH work happening at Western and beyond, spanning GIS mapping, medieval manuscripts, feminist social media analysis, investigative journalism, video game studies, and more. A midday panel — What is DH? — brought together faculty and librarians to explore how digital methods and tools are transforming the ways we research, interpret, and share knowledge.
Participant feedback was overwhelmingly positive, with the majority of respondents rating their experience Excellent (5/5) and describing the day as engaging, well-organized, and intellectually stimulating.
Western Libraries looks forward to building on this year's momentum and continuing to support the growing DH community at Western.
