Legislative Influence

The Ontario Mental Health Act (external link), last amended in 2004, deals with the intricacies of modern mental health care. It addresses a wide range of issues from hospitalization and admittance requirements, to the duties of the attending physician. While clearly a reflection of contemporary views of mental illness, the foundations of this act can be traced to groundbreaking legislation of a much earlier time period.
