Ways to Give
The easiest way to make your gift is with cash, credit card or cheque. Donations can be made online or by mail or phone.
One-Time Gifts
Make an immediate impact with a one-time donation. Your support helps us expand collections, modernize spaces, and enhance services that directly contribute to research and student success.
Monthly or Annual Giving
Scheduled donations play a critical role in the sustainability and growth of Western Libraries, as they allow us to respond flexibly to current and future priorities. Western employees can take advantage of payroll deductions to make scheduled giving effortless.
Memorial & Tribute Giving
Supporting Western Libraries can be a meaningful way to honor the life and accomplishments of a close friend or loved one, or to commemorate significant milestones like graduations, retirements, or anniversaries. Gifts can be directed to an established fund or a new fund in memory of your loved one. Friends and family can join in this tribute, and each donor will receive a donation receipt.
Gifts of Securities
Donating publicly listed securities —such as stocks, bonds, and mutual funds— allows you to make a significant impact while also benefiting from tax deductions. Western will issue a donation receipt for the fair market value of the gift of securities to be used for tax purposes. By transferring securities directly to Western, you eliminate your taxable capital gains. If your donation exceeds your eligible tax credit in the year the gift is made, you can carry forward the excess credit for up to five years.
If you leave securities to Western in your Will, your estate will get the same tax benefits. You can deduct gifts made through your Will up to 100 percent of your net income for the year of death and the year before.
Library Endowments
Create a long-lasting legacy with an endowment fund. Endowments are a powerful way to show your support for Western Libraries and can be initiated with donations of $400,000 or more, while smaller gifts can be added to existing funds. These contributions are invested to generate perpetual income that supports our collections, services, and spaces. Importantly, the original amount you donated is never spent, making it an everlasting source of funding for the future.
Bequests and Planned Giving
Include Western Libraries in your Will to ensure future generations benefit from world-changing research and education. Your contribution can take various forms, including cash, stocks and bonds (securities), retirement funds, real estate, or other types of property.
When making a bequest in your Will, you have two options. The first option is a residual bequest, which means you can leave a percentage of what remains in your estate after you have fulfilled other specific gifts to beneficiaries. The second option is a specific bequest, where you name a fixed dollar amount or a certain percentage of your estate, or you might choose to make a gift in kind.
Gifts-in-Kind
