All of the resources shown in this video are available to Western students, staff and faculty and can be accessed through the Western Libraries website or library catalogue. Licensed, online resources can be accessed from off-campus. You will need to log in with your Western ID and password.

You may have found references to items in bibliographies (such as those in Grove Music Online or in a composer bibliography). You may have found references in a bibliographic database (such as Music Index or RILM).

For references found in bibliographies, search the library catalogue by the title of the source (for example, the title of the book or the journal). Look for a link to the online version.

If there is no online version look for a print version. If you find a print version, get the location, the availability (including the available volume and issue numbers, if applicable), and the call number. Bring this information to the library or request the item through the library catalogue.

If you can't find the item in the library catalogue, you can request it through InterLibrary Loans.

For references found in bibliographic databases, there will often be a "Get it @ Western" button. See our "Music Index" and "RILM" videos for details.

The "Get it @ Western" button may link you directly to the item that you're after. Or it may link you to the parent item's home page (for example, the journal's home page or the book's home page). In this case, you'll need to navigate to the year, volume and issue (if applicable), and starting page for that item.

Or the "Get it @ Western" button may link you to the library catalogue. When the "Get it @ Western" button links you to the library catalogue, look for an online version. If there is no online version, look for a print version. Get the location, availability (including available volumes and issues), and call number. Bring this information to the library, or request the item through the library catalogue. If the item isn't in the library catalogue, you can order it through InterLibrary Loans.

If the item isn't available online or through the library catalogue, you can order the whole item (for example, a book) or a copy of a part of the item (for example, a journal article) through InterLibrary Loans. This service is usually free.

Most citation styles aren't very clear on how to cite music sources. See Indiana University Bloomington's "A Guide for Music Citation - Chicago/Turabian Style" for advice. https://guides.libraries.indiana.edu/c.php?g=516265&p=3529690
