Physical Spaces

With five libraries and an Education Resource Centre, Western Libraries has a variety of places for you to study and connect with classmates.

The D.B. Weldon Library

This is the largest library on campus and offers accessible spaces across all floors. Currently, Weldon is under construction as part of a revitalization project, which can affect services and space availability.

Changes to services and space access are communicated via Western’s Service Disruption page.

  • Accessible entrance with ramp via the main entrance across from the University Community Centre (UCC) and The Spoke entrance.
    • Archives and Research Collections Centre (ARCC) located in Weldon can be accessed through the ARCC reading room entrance.
  • Three elevators to access the ground through fifth floors; a single, one-floor elevator is available between the Spencer Room and ground floor.
  • Accessible washrooms are available on the ground, first, mezzanine, second, and fifth floors. All gender washrooms are available on first, mezzanine, second, and fifth floors.
  • Study and research spaces:
    • Accessible, bookable group study rooms are available on the mezzanine of Weldon Library. 
    • Seven individual-use study rooms for students registered with Accessible Education are available on the second floor. Students must check out a key at the main floor Info Desk to access the rooms. Rooms are 3-hour loans.

Allyn and Betty Taylor Library

Taylor Library is located in the Natural Sciences Centre, accessed through Einstein’s Café at the back (north) end of the building.

  • Accessible entrance with wheelchair ramp or stairs via Natural Sciences Centre main entrance, off Middlesex Drive.
  • Taylor Library spans eight levels, with service desks on the main floor.
  • Adjustable, accessible height InfoDesk.
  • Library elevators are located immediately to the left, after entering the library on the main floor.

C.B. "Bud" Johnston Library (Business)

The Business Library is located in Rm. 1250 in the southwest corner of the main floor of the Richard Ivey Building.

  • Wheelchair ramps at north and south main entrances and automated doors to building.
  • The library is located on the main floor. Collections and additional study spaces are on the second floor, accessible via stairs and elevator (to use the elevator, please request the Elevator card at the Info Desk).
  • Wheelchair accessible Info Desk and self-checkout.
  • Wheelchair accessible workstations on Bloomberg Terminals. Terminal #1 includes Kurzweil 3000 and Zoom Text 10.
  • Accessible washrooms on the main floor:
    • Women’s, Rms. 1127 and 1377
    • Men’s, Rms. 1129 and 1378
    • All gender washroom, Rm. 1141

John and Dotsa Bitove Family Law Library

The Law Library is located on the second floor of the Josephine Spencer Niblett Law Building, at the northeast corner of Western Road and Lambton Drive.

  • Wheelchair ramp at main entrance and automated doors to building.
  • Access to the library is available via stairs or elevator.
    • Elevator C: Turn left after entering the building’s main entrance.
    • Elevator D: Across from Chambers (note: this is a smaller elevator that may not accommodate larger mobility devices).
  • Two accessible washrooms are available: one near the administrative office on the second floor and one across the hall from Elevator C on the main floor.
  • Automated doors at library entrance.
  • An elevator in the library's main reading room takes users to the upper and lower stacks.

Music Library

The Music Library is located in Rm. 234 on the second floor of Talbot College.

  • Wheelchair ramp at main entrance and automated doors to building.
  • The library is accessible via stairs or elevator.

  • Main seating area in the library is equipped with modular seating options.

  • Accessible washrooms in Talbot College are located one floor down, on the main floor:

Education Resource Centre

The Education Resource Centre (ERC) is located on the ground floor of the John George Althouse Building.

  • A self-serve Course Readings locker is located outside the ERC doors.
