Fines and Suspensions

Items returned after the due date will be subject to overdue fines.

Fine Rates

If items are recalled, it is your responsibility to return item in person, mail or courier by the date specified on the recall notice.

You are responsible for any lost items, fines incurred or damage done to borrowed items. Suspension of borrowing privieges occurs when a loaned item becomes overdue or if you have over $5.00 in fines.

Western Libraries is open to the general public and everyone may use most of our collections and services. You may consult library staff for assistance.

A valid university identification card is required to borrow items. More information here.

Regular Loans

The loan period for most circulating items is defined at the top of this page. All items on regular loan are subject to recall.

Reserve and Short Loans

Some items may be placed on reserve or short loan status. The loan periods range from one hour to seven days depending upon demand.

Extended Loans

Faculty, students and staff of Western and the Affiliated University Colleges (Brescia, Huron, King's) and St. Peter's Seminary may request selected items for an extended period. All items on extended loan are subject to recall.

Recalled Loans

Any item on regular or extended loan may be recalled. Faculty, students and staff of Western and the Affiliated University Colleges may recall such items. The original borrower is assured of at least seven days use of the requested item before it must be returned.

Recalls are placed by clicking on the  Request Item Button button in the Shared Library Catalogue, or in person at any Western Libraries Service Desk.

Renewal of Loans

Regular or extended loan items may be renewed up to 3 times by the due date* unless they have been recalled by another patron, or your borrowing privileges are suspended. Reserve and short loan items are not renewable. For online renewal, login to My Library Account on the Western Libraries website. Items can also be renewed when they are brought to any Western Libraries Service Desk.

*Guest Borrowers & Direct Borrowers are eligible for 1 renewal only.

Non-Circulating Items

There are items in each library that do not circulate. Some non-circulating items may be circulated for a limited period at the discretion of the library holding them. These items will be subject to overdue fines.

Library items should be returned as soon as they are no longer needed so they are available for use by others:
