Folio

Folio was a literary magazine run by students at the University of Western Ontario. It began in 1947 and published in the fall and spring terms until 1972. Folio includes creative works by UWO students such as poetry, short stories, artwork, photography, and more.

Historic Cookery Collection

This is a selection of volumes from our special collections and archives pertaining to medicinal and food recipes, dating from the 1600s to early 1900s. The collection contains handwritten volumes, scrapbooks, and published books, many created or compiled in Canada.

John and Amelia Harris Family fonds

This collection contains the personal diaries of Amelia Harris from 1857 to 1882, covering her life in London, Ontario, the travel diary of Lucy Harris during her 1897 trip to Japan, and the travel diaries of Milly Harris from 1893 to 1903 from her trips around the world.

Barnett’s Accession Journals

John Davis Barnett donated over 40,000 books to the University of Western Ontario and became Western’s first librarian. His accession journals organize his books by subject headings, and include the author's name, book title, dimensions of the book, and the number assigned to the book.

Nursing Diaries

The Nursing Diaries collection includes diaries, certificates, a photograph, and a yearbook from two nurses training at Victoria Hospital in London, Ontario, in the 1920s and 1950s. This includes material from the Ruby Muriel Carter fonds and the Kathleen McIntyre fonts.

Canadian Journal of Surgery

The Canadian Journal of Surgery is an open access journal that contributes to the effective continuing medical education of Canadian surgical specialists. We’ve digitized the backfiles of the journal, from Volume 1, Issues 1 (October, 1957) through Volume 38, Issue 6 (December 1995).

UWO President’s Reports

The University of Western Ontario’s Report of the President (also under the name UWO President’s Reports) were published annually from 1928 to 2006 and detail everything from campus achievements and events to statistics from each academic year.

Western News

Western News was Western’s campus newspaper from 1965-2018 (also known as UWO News and Western Times). We’ve digitized the print newspaper (1965-2005) and included born-digital issues (2005-2018) so users may access all items in one location.

Voice of the Bondsman

The Voice of the Bondsman was a newspaper issued in Stratford by abolitionist John J.E Linton. He wrote the publication to encourage Canadians to support escaped slaves seeking refuge in Canada. Two issues were published, with only 5000 copies distributed. This is the only known surviving copy.
