Electronic Maps and Atlases

The Map and Data Centre has a number of digital atlases and maps on CD/DVD-ROMs available for use within the library. Patrons may request the use of these electronic resources at the reference desk and may use an available workstation to browse the software. Available titles are organized by geography below.

    Digital scanned copies of current 1:50,000 and 1:250,000 NTS sheets available for free public download. All sheets are rectified for use in GIS software.

  • Ecoregions of Saskatchewan
    Canadian Plains Research Center, 1998

    This CD ROM is one of four products that presents the Saskatchewan Ecological Land Classification perspective. It is also one of the Encyclopedia of Saskatchewan family of products. Requires Quicktime.

  • Elgin Landscape Strategy and Land Use and Stewardship Atlas

    Provides coordination and direction for informing stakeholders about options for land stewardship in the county. Contains maps of “restoration potential” that identify the potential contribution of areas to meeting stewardship goals. Requires Adobe Reader.

  • From Ancient Afryqah to Modern Africa

    Intended as a basic reference text, the disk provides full historical coverage to the present time of Africa's 53 sovereign states and 18 Dependent Territories.   • The National Archives British Trench Map Atlas: The Western Front 1914-18

    A selection of some 700 large-scale regular series trench maps with almost complete coverage of the British section of the Western Front in 1914-1918 war, from the North Sea at Nieuport in Belgium southwards to St. Quentin.

  • Annual Arctic Ice Atlas - Winter 2008

    This atlas is part of a continuing series of annual publications graphically depicting the mid-winter arctic ice conditions using satellite pictures and maps. This product is primarily prepared as a climate record of the mid-winter ice conditions and as a general interest document for arctic travelers.

    Global GIS is a seven disc set (separated into large regions) which integrates a wide range of geologic, hydrologic, cultural, and social data for the regions.     Set of 506 US Military 1:500,000 scale topographic maps in georeferenced raster GeoTIFF format. Can be used in conjunction with Geographic Information Systems or as stand-alone maps. This resource is only available to UWO faculty, students and staff.

Universe

  • Atlas of Deimos: A Collection of Maps Based on Viking Images

    The CD-ROM contains the following sets of maps: mosaics - 15 mosaics covering the surface of Deimos, each in TIFF, GIF and JPG format. sheets - the same mosaics in the same formats, with grid lines and annotations. (there is also a reduced-scale composite in globe-gore format which may be assembled into a globe, not perfectly shaped but interesting!) global - global photomosaics in the same formats showing Deimos in several map projections.
